Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s opening surpassed expectations at the US box office, taking in $104 million, becoming the best opening of the Paul Rudd trilogy.

According to a report from VarietyAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is expected to collect between $118 and $120 million in America over the weekend.

In terms of the global box office, the third Ant-Man movie has revenues of $121 million, which means the grand total has reached $225 million. For comparison, Quantumania beat out the original Ant-Man’s $57 million opening, and Ant-Man and the Wasp’s $76 million opening.

Although it did well, Ant-Man isn’t the most successful MCU film franchise, failing to match openings like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ($181 million) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($185 million) and Thor: Love and Thunder ($144).

However, the third movie in the franchise garnered a lot of buzz this weekend, as Ant-Man 3 officially launched Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and introduced Jonathan Majors’ villain Kang the Conqueror to the real world. Despite the poor reviews, it is expected to surpass its previous sequels in terms of ticket sales. Globally, the first Ant-Man movie ended up taking in $519 million, and Ant-Man and the Wasp left theaters with $622 million.

In terms of other films at the box office, Avatar: The Way of Water came in second with $6.4 million, which was enough to make the film’s total revenues exceed $2.2433 billion worldwide, overtaking Titanic to become the third-highest-grossing film of all time.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance, which dominated the US box office last week, continued its strong performance, taking third place with $5.5 million this week, followed by Puss in Boots: The Last Wish with $5.3 million, taking fourth place. Knock at the Cabin came in fifth with $3.9 million.
