Full development of Tomb Raider has begun – it will be revealed later this year
Crystal Dynamics studio announced in April of last year the start of work on the new part of the Tomb Raider series, but when do we expect to see an official reveal of the game? Reports claim that this will happen later this year.
report says Exputer Developer Crystal Dynamics is preparing to completely discontinue support for Marvel’s Avengers and move what’s left of the small team currently overseeing the game over to Project Tomb Raider.
The report states that Tomb Raider is “in full development” at the moment, with a full reveal planned for later this year.
We can confirm the game will be revealed this year as previously suggested by Crystal Dynamics itself, with CEO Phil Rogers saying in November that new details about the project will be shared sometime in 2023.
Tomb Raider was released for the first time in 1996, and it had 12 main games and many subsidiary versions, and during that time, the series sold more than 95 million copies worldwide, and the re-introduced trilogy in 2013 (Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider) on the largest share of sales.
This will be the first new mainline Tomb Raider game since Shadow of the Tomb Raider that came out in 2018. Crystal Dynamics has been known in recent years for developing reboots of the Tomb Raider series, which give us a fresh look at Lara Croft’s origin story. In recent years, she has developed Marvel’s Avengers, and helped Microsoft’s Initiative studio develop the Perfect Dark bot.
