Ben Affleck Openly Announces He Won’t Direct Any Movies In The DC Cinematic Universe Under James Gunn’s Direction
Ben Affleck has stated that he has no desire to return to the DC Cinematic Universe, and will not direct any films for the company under the DC Universe Led by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
It was reported in drLesmper reports that Gunn met with Affleck to discuss the possibility of him directing a DC universe filmAnd although Affleck has made it clear that he holds no grudges against Gunn, he simply has no interest in directing any work for the new DC Cinematic Universe.
Ben Affleck told the newspaper The Hollywood Reporter saying:
I’m not going to produce anything for James and DC. I certainly have nothing against James Gunn, he’s a nice guy, and I’m sure he’ll do a great job. I just don’t want to get involved in what they’re doing, and I don’t care.
The reasoning behind his decision to walk away from directing any work in the DC cinematic universe seems to be due in part to his time with James Whedon’s Justice League, and he explains some of the issues they had with production. Affleck said of that experience:
You could give a symposium on all the reasons why I wouldn’t want to direct any DC movie, from production to bad decisions to horrible personal tragedy, to only end with the ugliest taste in my mouth.
Affleck claims that Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League is his highest-rated movie on IMDb, but the whole experience took its toll on him personally and found him losing interest in the universe creatively, so he eventually decided to step back from doing the superhero genre. He described that experience and period, saying:
That was the worst experience I have ever had in a company filled with some bad experiences.
