Tom Cruise denied helicopter landings in Svalbard due to pollution threat
Tom Cruise has been denied helicopter landings on Svalbard, the Arctic archipelago, for the filming of an upcoming action movie Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, Part Two.
Cruise, 60, who missed the 2023 Oscars amid his busy filming schedules for MI:8, had requested permission for 30 landings on the Arctic island.
However, the Top Gun: Maverick star was denied the request because authorities in the Norwegian territory of Svalbard said the helicopter would disturb local wildlife.
According The temperature, production company PolarX has applied for 30 landing permits for filming in the St. Jonsfjorden, Negribreen, Linnevatnet and Adventdalen areas through April 9.
Kristin Heggelund, who heads the local environment department, said it aimed to “preserve a virtually untouched environment on Svalbard”, the Telegraph reported.
She added: “Any passage through Svalbard must be conducted in a way that does not unnecessarily disturb humans or animals.”
Cruise featuring Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 hits theaters on July 14.
