Strictly’s Kym Marsh Opens Up About Being A Single Mom: ‘Begged And Borrowed’
Kym Marsh opens up about her single mother’s struggles in her latest interview, adding that she had to beg and borrow from family and friends to make ends meet.
Remembering her own struggles as a single mother, the Coronation Street star, 46, compared herself to her new persona during the Waterloo Road reboot on Saturday.
The 46-year-old actress, who plays school canteen worker Nicky Walters on the soap, said there were “elements of Nicky” she could relate to.
Speaking in an interview with The mirrorKym detailed her past raising her children David, 27, and Emilie, 25, on her own after becoming pregnant with her 18-year-old son.
She said: ‘I was a single mother for many years when David and Emilie were little. I had nobody. I struggled to make ends meet. I begged and borrowed from my family and friends to help me.
“Yeah, there are elements of Nicky that I get and understand because I’ve been there too,” Kym explained of her life before becoming famous.
“She’s struggling to make ends meet, she’s a single mom, she tries to work multiple jobs to make sure her kids don’t miss out. It is very much linked at the moment with the cost of living crisis.
Waterloo Road was back on our screens on Tuesday night with an episode in which Adam Thomas reprises his role as Donte Charles on the school series this summer after a 15-year hiatus from the show.
