‘RRR’ Director SS Rajamouli Puts Audience Love Before Critical Praise
NEW YORK: Bollywood filmmaker SS Rajamouli has emerged as a star of the 2023 awards season, with his three-hour action film ‘RRR’ receiving rave reviews and sparking a campaign to have the film nominated for an Oscar in the category of best film.
“RRR” stars NT Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan and is based on two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao), who form a friendship and fight against the British colonialist crown in the 1920s.
The cast of “RRR” includes big names from Bollywood, like Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt, and features Telugu language stars like Junior NT Rama Rao and Ram Charan.
“When we originally decided to make (the film), we didn’t have critical acclaim in mind. We decided to make the film for the audience, for them to like it, for them to he gets to experience the movie,” Rajamouli said. told Reuters.
He said receiving rave reviews is something that gives the cast and crew a pat on the back.
Some critics say the film is exactly what the world needs right now, which Rajamouli considers the best compliment.
“I have to get them out of the theater completely refreshed and back to their lives,” Rajamouli said.
The 2022 film currently streaming on Netflix is nominated for two Golden Globe Awards. (Reuters)
