Prince Harry’s cocktail request to the Queen Mother was an ‘event’
Prince Harry admits he had hoped to shock his family with an open request for alcohol over dinner.
Writing in his memoir ‘Spare’, the Duke of Sussex recalls shocking the Queen Mother while drinking a cocktail at Balmoral in 2001.
He writes: “She asked for a martini. Moments later, someone handed him an ice-cold goblet filled with gin. I watched her take a sip, deftly dodging the lemon floating on top, and on a whim I decided to join her. I had never had a cocktail in front of my family, so this would be an event.
Harry adds: “A bit of rebellion. Empty Rebellion, it turned out. Nobody cared. Nobody noticed. Except GanGan. She perked up for a moment when she saw me playing adult, gin and tonic in hand. I sat next to her.
