Prince Harry and Meghan fans crack SNL coronation joke about the Sussexes
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got angry over a brutal jibe at the Duchess of Sussex on Saturday Night Live’s latest show.
The sketch saw Michael Che take aim at Prince Harry’s wife as he made a crude joke about speculation surrounding the pair’s likely appearance at King Charles’ coronation in May. The couple’s fans called the SNL’s content “unfunny” and “misogynistic.”
The comedian appeared brutally frisking the Duchess, joking that Harry’s wife had been offered ‘$19 an hour’ to attend King Charles III’s historic ceremony as he faked the image of Meghan dressed in a maid outfit behind him.
Michael, in the segment, said, “It’s been reported that the organizers of King Charles’ coronation have officially invited Meghan Markle. And that’s fine: with a starting salary of $19 an hour.”
The Sussex team took to Twitter to express their anger over the cruel and ‘offensive’ skit, with one reacting by saying: ‘Notice how unfunny Michael Che is and he never was? Especially tonight with his cheap ‘Meghan’ joke – not funny – just getting used to insulting a black woman. Apologize and recant. But it’s unforgivable. isn’t even funny! Just rude.
Another wrote: “Misogynist Ugo Michael Che thinks misogyny is edgy. I bet privately he says bullshit like “why can’t men have a day for them?” ; “
“Did the writers take a week off? This episode is awful,” the third wrote.
Others tweeted: “WTF…you just can’t keep Meghan Markle’s name out of your mouth. This is sick.”
