Petition urging ITV not to fire Jeremy Clarkson crosses 10,000 mark
More than 10,000 Jeremy Clarkson fans have signed a petition in support of the star, urging ITV not to fire their favorite host for his controversial column about Meghan Markle.
In the online petition, favoring the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host, claims the backlash to Clarkson’s column “has been completely disproportionate.”
Clarkson’s punishment is ‘already completely disproportionate to the crime, adding that being sacked by ITV would ‘aggravate his humiliation’
The petition’s creators also asked ITV CEO Carolyn McCall “to bear in mind the price Jeremy Clarkson has already paid for his remarks”.
It comes after the TV host’s column in The Sun in which he said he ‘hated’ Meghan Markle – and added that he dreams of the Duchess being paraded naked through UK cities.
It quickly became the Independent Press Standards Organization’s (Ipso) most criticized article after publication, with many calling its comments “misogynistic”.
The Sun later apologized and said it regretted publishing the column, which topped more than 25,000 Ipso complaints. Even Clarkson’s own daughter made a public statement in which she condemned her father’s comments.
