Pete Davidson explains how jokes about his personal life made him feel ‘loser’
Pete Davidson, who often becomes a frequent target of late-night comedian puns, mostly because of his love life, has spoken about the impact these jokes and skits have had on him.
The comedian specifically expressed how the jokes about Saturday Night Live made him feel like a “loser”.
During his recent appearance on a podcast The real ones, Davidson explained that he could digest all the roasting until it got very personal.
“In 12 years, I have dated 10 people. I don’t think it’s that crazy, but for some people it’s very interesting. It became all that everyone was talking about,” said the Body Body Body said the star.
“Suddenly you’re in tune with the times and it has nothing to do with work,” Davidson continued. “and it’s a really expansive feeling. I became better known before the job was there, but I was still working.
Davidson while assuring “I’m cool with the joke. I get the late night jokes.” expressed was when SNL began making jokes to the detriment of the comedian’s personal life that he took an emotional hit.
“When your own show [pokes fun at you]”, Davidson said. “I’d be sitting in the back watching the cold open up and – the cold open up [is] current events, political humour, all that is in culture. And then make fun of you.”
“Then you have to go out and do a sketch then and hit your mark and the show just made fun of you. So why are they going to make fun of you? Like, they just chased you in front of everyone… And you’ I’m like ‘I’m a swear loser, man,'” he added.
Kim Kardashian’s ex-boyfriend went further: “These are the people I’ve been with for almost a decade. I grew up in front of these people. They watched me through the most difficult time of my life. my life and they’ve been there for me.”
“And no one ever showed me more freedom and grace than [‘SNL’ creator] Lorne Michaels, and I owe this guy my life, but it was confusing because the nature of entertainment is the nature of this business. At the end of the day, that’s what it is. It was a really hard thing to do. You feel small. You feel super insecure.”
Despite these revelations from the comedian, there’s no bad blood between Davidson and Michaels, as the two have teamed up for the upcoming comedy series Peacock. Bupkis.
