Outlander star Richard Rankin to play Edinburgh detective John Rebus in new ‘Rebus’ series

Foreign Star Richard Rankin is roped in to star in a new detective series based on Ian Rankin’s crime novels.

Screenwriter Gregory Burke is adapting the work of Ian Rankin for the six-part series which will focus on Edinburgh detective John Rebus, played by Richard Rankin.

According Hollywood journalist, the series will begin filming in Scotland in April.

Niall MacCormick will direct and air on Scandinavian streamer Viaplay in 2024.

Speaking about his new role, Rankin said, “I’m thrilled to take on the role of Rebus.”

The Last Kingdom The actor added: “I’m a huge fan of the show and of Sir Ian Rankin. I feel very lucky to have the honor of bringing such an iconic Scottish character back to TV screens and will give it my all. I have to do him justice.”
