Matthew McConaughey took career advice from a ‘fortune teller’
Matthew McConaughey starred in the 2003 romantic comedy film, How to lose a guy in 10 dayscelebrated his 20th birthday last month and the lead actor has revealed the unusual reason he took on the role.
The Interstellar star, 53, recently revealed that a fortune teller influenced his decision to say yes to his role as Benjamin Berry in How to lose a guy in 10 days.
McConaughey, in an interview with vanity loungereleased on Thursday, shared that he was considering whether to join the cast on a nighttime stroll down Sunset Boulevard.
“Suddenly this guy came to me out of nowhere – he was a fortune teller guru [and] goes, ‘Can I tell you your fortune real quick?’ say it Dallas Buyers Club actor.
“I was like, ‘Yeah, man. Sure,'” McConaughey recalled. “He immediately goes, ‘There’s a movie you’re thinking about right now. It’s a romantic comedy. You have to do this or it’s going to be one of the biggest regrets of your life. be an amazing experience and it’s going to bring in a lot of money.
McConaughey said at first it was in disbelief, but the prophecy of the mysterious stranger made an impression, “I remember thinking, did the studio hire this guy?”
“I laughed at that thought, but I also remember taking more serious consideration,” he said. “I think I even accepted the offer the next day.”
McConaughey co-star Kate Hudson – who also spoke to Vanity Fair as part of a tribute to the film’s 20th anniversary – was brought into the cast without any unusual influences.
According to Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow was originally set to play the role of Andie Anderson.
