JK Rowling weighs in on debate over transgender issues
JK Rowling recently opened up about the backlash she’s faced over her views on gender and trans rights.
Speaking on the latest episode of the podcast The Witch Trials by JK Rowling on March 14, Harry Potter The author said, “When I first became interested in, and then deeply troubled by, what I saw as a cultural movement that was illiberal in its methods and questionable in its ideas.”
The writer continued, “I absolutely knew that if I spoke out, a lot of people who love my books would be deeply unhappy with me.”
“I knew that, because I could see they believed they were living the values I had espoused in those books. I could tell they believed they were fighting for underdogs, difference and fairness. And I thought it would be easier not to,” Rowling explained.
While discussing his concerns, the author pointed out, “I knew it could be really bad and it was bad personally, it was not fun, and I sometimes felt scared for my safety and especially , for that of my family. security.”
Rowling mentioned, “Time will tell if I’m wrong.”
“I can only say that I thought about it deep and hard and long and I listened to, I promise, the other side, and I believe, absolutely, that there is something dangerous about this movement and that it must be challenged,” she concluded.
