HBO Max Cancels ‘Gossip Girl’ Reboot After Two Seasons

HBO Max Series Gossip Girl which was a reboot of the popular CW show has come to an end.

Joshua Safran, who served as the series’ showrunner and producer, took to Instagram to announce that Warner Bros. Discovery was not pursuing a third season of the reboot of the popular CW drama.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I must announce that GOSSIP GIRL will not be continuing on HBO Max.” he wrote.

It is also not yet confirmed if Gossip Girl will remain on HBO Max after its series finale on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

Although it was canceled by HBO Max, Gossip Girl can stream on another platform, like season two of The Minx land at Starz.

Safran in his Instagram post also mentioned that Gossip Girl is “currently looking for another home, but in this climate it could prove a difficult bottle”.

He continued, “So if this is the end, at least we’ve come out on the highest of peaks.” XOXO, you know you loved him.

The reboot of the popular CW series premiered on HBO Max on July 8, 2021. The 2021 version featured a fresh and diverse version of hyper-privileged students at Constance Billard-St. Jude.

Unlike the original, which did not reveal the identity of Gossip Girl until the series finale, the brilliant and expensive reboot established the identity of Gossip Girl.

This new concept initially received mixed reviews, with Vanity Fair chief reviewer Richard Lawson calling the reboot “lackluster and toothless.”

However, the second season was considered improved by critics and currently holds 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“For the majority, Gossip Girl improves on its flaws from its first season as it allows the characters to be rich, petty, and just plain messy,” Diana Shen wrote in her review for Paste Magazine.
