Disney+ moves to swing the ax on ‘Williow’

Disney+ High Fantasy Show willow is not returning for the second season, according to Deadline.

The news broke after two months of the completed first season based on eight episodes, which premiered in November and ran until January 2023.

The show starred Warwick Davis, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Ellie Bamber, Tony Revolori, Amar Chadha-Patel, Dempsey Bryk and Joanne Whalley.

The series’ official login line reads, “In a magical world where brownies, wizards, trolls and other mystical creatures thrive, the adventure continues as an unlikely group of heroes set out on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home, where they must confront their inner demons and unite to save their world.

Additionally, the show was well received by critics as the first season earned an 83% critical approval rating on Rotten tomatoes.

Previously, showrunner Jonathan Kasdan flagged for season 2, saying he had “every intention of doing more.”

“I’m sitting in my office and still planning and planning. It’s a weird time in the business,” Kasdan added.

“It’s a transformational time for Disney. So I couldn’t tell you anything for sure, except that we’re continuing to work on this with the intention of doing more.”
