David Letterman slams Tom Cruise for missing the Oscars
“Where was Tom Cruise?” was the question David Letterman asked himself during his visit to Jimmy kimmel live.
The TV host and comedian said, “Here’s something a little sensitive: Tom Cruise,” Letterman said. “Where was Tom Cruise?”
Letterman commented on the Top Gun: Maverick the actor’s absence from the 2023 Oscars.
Even with “Top Gun: Maverickearning six Oscar nominations alongside Cruise as the film’s producer, the veteran star missed out.
Reports said Cruise couldn’t attend as he was filming the “Impossible mission» continued in Italy. However, the actor was in London two days after the Oscars to attend Michael Caine’s 90th birthday party. The actor also attended the Oscar nominees luncheon in February, reports Variety.
“We don’t know where Tom Cruise was,” replied Kimmel, who hosted the final awards show.
“We have heard of production issues.”
“What does that mean?” Letterman asked. “That’s nonsense.”
“Exactly. It’s very unspecific,” Kimmel said. “But we have no idea what happened.”
Letterman went on to say that Cruise “should have been ‘at the Oscars’ to celebrate his big Maverick jet pack show.”
“Yeah. It looks like he should have been there, but he wasn’t. Maybe he felt like he wasn’t going to win so he didn’t want to come.
“But between you and me, he should have been there right?” Letterman then asked Kimmel.
“Yeah sure,” Kimmel replied. “He’s the Prince of Hollywood.”
“More to the power of your success,” Letterman added. “If Mr. Big Shot wasn’t there, the show has never been better. Well done, Jimmy.
