Ben Affleck opens up about becoming a ‘poster boy’ for ‘actors’ alcoholism and recovery’
Ben Affleck has opened up about unwittingly becoming the “poster boy” for “actors’ alcoholism and recovery” by revealing that he enjoys helping people struggling with alcohol addiction.
In an interview with Hollywood journalist, THE missing girl The star said people struggling with alcohol addiction often approach him for advice.
The Hollywood star, who has been candid about his struggle with alcoholism, said he felt “so good” when fans asked him to help with their problems.
“I became — without any desire on my part — one of the poster boys for alcoholism and actor recovery and everything,” he told the publication.
Affleck has been in rehab several times throughout 2001, 2017 and 2018. His addiction has also caused problems in his marriage to his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children.
“And the best part is that sometimes people call me up and say, ‘Hey, can you help me?’ And it feels so good to do that,” the actor added.
“The big thing about the 12 steps is why they want you to help others is because it actually helps you more. And often what I tell people is that I would avoid [your addiction] out if I were you,” Affleck said.
“You don’t have to be anyone’s poster child. You don’t have to (expletive) tell anyone. That’s why there are two words on the front of the book. They’re both equally important: Alcoholics Anonymous. It’s still anonymous.”
